Opening Channels

Step 2: Opening Channels and Balancing Liquidity

Now that you have some bitcoin in your onchain wallet, you can open some channels to other peers so you can start routing payments and earning fees. We'll open a few channels to other peers on Mutinynet.

  1. Find a peer to open a channel with. You can find a list of beefy nodes on the Mutinynet Mempool Lightning Explorer.
  • The connection string for one of our bigger Fedi Alpha nodes is pubkey@address:port , this one's reliable and makes a good first channel peer.
  1. On your Thunderhub Dashboard, click "Peers" in the left navbar then "Add Peer" and paste the connection string into the joined "Url" field. Click "Add" to connect to the peer.

  2. Once the peer is connected, click "Channels" in the left navbar then "Open Channel" and fill out the form with the peer's pubkey and the amount of sats you want to open the channel with. Click "Open Channel" to open the channel.
